Having a choice of proven technologies gives KLH a clear advantage. The Albany is anything but a “bookshelf version” of our tower speakers, because we use the same acoustic suspension principles invented by Henry Kloss himself. Albany, by the street of the same name, brings improbable sound from an affordable loudspeaker. It is a 2-way acoustic suspension design, featuring woven Kevlar drivers with powder-coated die-cast aluminum baskets, braided tinsel leads, custom designed crossovers, an anodized aluminum tweeter with linear response faceplate, and much more, and all in real wood veneers.

I have them paired with a 12 wpc Pioneer SX-424 stereo receiver and a Dual 621 turntable/Ortofon Super OM40, and they are replacing my Klipsch R-14m. I also have a pair of Klipsch R-15m’s on another vintage system and can say that I like the KLH Albany better than either of the two Klipsch speakers I have.

I love them! They sound great, they look great. Tone knobs are set at bass +2, treble 0. Clear highs, a full-sounding mid-range, and nice resonate bass; a cleaner, better-quality of bass… kind of like my much older KLH Model Thirty-One’s.

As the KLH Albany speakers are still in their “Break in Period” my comments are based on first impressions and limited “Burn In” time. The fit and finish are terrific. The real walnut wood veneer is very well done and quite attractive. The magnetic grill attachment is also very nice if you are interested in listening to them without the grills in place. Initially the speakers sounded a bit “bright” and slow in the higher registers, but after a 24 hour running in they now sound much smoother and detailed. The bass was also initially a bit sluggish and limited but has blossomed into a very well balanced and defined bass. Imaging is very good and overall the Albanys bring out the best in well-recorded music. I’m looking forward to listening to them as they mature mechanically.

Ok I just got these and I am amazed at the clarity. The mid range is really good and the highs are great also. I think these will be a speaker i can listen to for hours and not get ear fatigue. They are not broke in yet so the base is a little tight. I’m hoping that they gets a little more punch to them. They have a clear
un-colored sound. They are not big speakers so they sit on a shelf very well. I’ll try to update after they break in.

As a veteran lighting professional in the film & television industry in Los Angeles, because of practical locations as well as high end musical equipment “dressed” on our sets, I regularly get to listen to some of the best home speakers on the market.
That is why when I first heard a pair of KLH Albany bookshelf speakers I immediately had to have a pair for my own home.
Being a live music fan I have played everything from The Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl to Widespread Panic Live from Redrocks last year and the sound reproduction is simply one word…AMAZING!
Buy yourself a pair; you won’t regret it!!!
It’s the holiday season; buy a loved one a pair!!! They’ll love them!!!

I’ve had these little gems for awhile now, giving them time to break in. A little bright at first, but after ” about “30 hours or so, they sound great . Good bass and very nice highs . I bought the walnut, Beautiful fit and finish! I also enjoy my klipsch The Sixes, Wichita I bought from Crutchfield. You will not regret buying these !! As many know,KLH is an old brand name, associated with ACOUSTIC RESEARCH, AR speakers! I still have my original AR 2’s .

Pros: A real quality speaker for not too much money.

    Cons: None

I’ve owned a LOT of speakers. By far, these are the best! Sound stage is excellent and cohesive, imaging spot on. I liken the sound to speakers costing hundreds more, if not thousands. Spaciousness and presence of my Maggie MMGs, but without the placement issues – these fit virtually anywhere. I’ve been listening across the spectrum from classical (Stravinsky), hard rock (Rush), jazz (Madeline Peyroux) as example. Albany’s work well with everything that I listen to. I’ve fallen in love with music again! Buy these!
